Hello.
I would like to talk a little about my work Matsumoto Tsumigi (pongee, also know as Shinshu Tsumugi) that I make at my work studio named “Chitose-ya”.
Chitose-ya specializes in hand-woven, plant-dyed Matsumoto Tsumugi.
When you look at my works, you can see the subtle and beautiful shades of colors of plant dyeing. They are quite different from the colors made by chemical dyeing.
In the weaving process, the weft is slowly and carefully woven by using “Hi” (a shuttle). It gives the fabric soft and warm texture, which is appreciated especially by people who enjoy Sado(Japanese tea ceremony).
Works at Chitose-ya are all hand-woven. Unlike machine weaving, hand weaving takes more time and effort in every step of the process.
Weaving each customer’s story into my work, I am proud of making Matsumoto Tsumugi, that could be passed down for generations as “treasure with story”.
